This ancestor of the modern armadillo looks almost exactly like one, except it's the size of a small car!
Glyptodon were reserve eaters. This means they required much less food to survive than other herbivores!
Glyptodon were discovered as early as 1823. It's bones were initially mistaken for those of a Megatherium, the giant ground sloth!
Glyptodon, meaning 'grooved tooth', was named for the unique grinding shape of its teeth.
