Greek for ‘spiral saw’, Helicoprion gets its name from the shape of its teeth, which are called ‘tooth whorls’.

At 24 inches long, the Helicoprion’s tooth whorl stumped scientists. Early guesses placed it on the dorsal fin and even the tail!

This prehistoric shark can grow up to 33 feet in length, making the Helicoprion one of the largest ocean predators of its time!
