Facts
The Sonorasaurus was found in the Sonoran desert, from which its name is derived, in 1994.
Sonorasaurus is the oldest known brachiasaurid from the Middle Cretaceous period.
The existence of the Sonorasaurus destroys the theory that sauropods/titanosaurs died out in North America by the Cretaceous period.
An original contender for the Sonorasaurus' name was 'Chihuahuasaurus' but it was decided it would be a silly name for a 49 foot long dinosaur.
