The Giant Orthocone is related to squids and octopi. Like them, the Orthocone grabs prey with its tentacles and devours it with its beak!
The Giant Orthocone has very primitive eyes. Luckily, it lives in very deep water, where its keen sense of smell serves it better!
The Giant Orthocone has tentacles, but no suction cups. Instead, its eight arms are lined with smooth pads.
Orthocone means 'chambered horn'. This comes from the animal's most distinct aspect: its giant protective shell!
