Facts
The Dodo was first described by Europeans during the Second Dutch Expedition to Indonesia in 1598.
After European arrival on the island of Mauritius, the Dodo was hunted to extinction by humans and invasive species. It went extinct around 1662.
The Dodo was native to the island of Mauritius, east of Madagascar in the Indian ocean.
Today, the Dodo remains a prominent symbol of the importance of conservation and the human capacity to quickly destroy entire species!
